Privacy Policy

This Privacy Policy explains how MethodicalFunction ("we," "us," "our") collects, uses, discloses, and safeguards information when you use MethodicalFunction.com (the "Site").
We provide a Notice at Collection that lists the categories of personal information we collect, purposes, retention, and whether we sell or share (as defined by California law). You can exercise rights via the links below.
1) Scope
This Policy applies to the Site, newsletters, RSS, and related features. Third-party sites we link to have their own policies.
2) Information We Collect
- Identifiers & device data: IP address (truncated/aggregated where possible), user-agent, pages viewed, referrers, timestamps.
- Usage analytics: page performance, events, scroll depth, and basic engagement metrics.
- Contact data (if you submit it): name, email, message.
- UGC via Giscus: comments posted through GitHub Discussions; your GitHub handle and comment content become public.
We do not intentionally collect sensitive personal information. We do not knowingly collect information from children under 13.
3) Sources
Directly from you (forms), automatically from your device (cookies or similar), and from service providers (e.g., analytics).
4) How We Use Information
To operate and improve the Site, measure performance, secure the Site, respond to inquiries, comply with law, and prevent fraud and abuse.
5) Cookies, Analytics, and Tracking
We use Google Tag Manager to load Google Analytics 4 with Consent Mode v2. By default, analytics cookies are denied until you consent via our cookie banner. You may withdraw consent at any time via cookie settings.
Do Not Track: Some browsers send "DNT" signals. We do not respond to DNT signals; instead, we provide explicit consent controls.
6) Disclosure of Information
We may disclose to:
- Service providers/processors (e.g., hosting on AWS S3/CloudFront; analytics via Google; CI via GitHub Actions) under contracts that restrict use.
- Legal and safety (to comply with law or protect rights).
- Business transfers (if we undergo a change in control).
We do not sell your personal information for money. We do not knowingly sell or share personal information of consumers under 16.
7) California Privacy Rights (CPRA/CCPA)
California residents have the right to:
- Know/Access the categories and specific pieces of personal information collected.
- Delete personal information (subject to exceptions).
- Correct inaccurate personal information.
- Opt-out of "sale" or "sharing" of personal information.
- Limit use/disclosure of sensitive personal information (not applicable; we do not use SPI).
- Non-discrimination for exercising rights.
How to Exercise Your Rights
Use our Request Form or email privacy@methodicalfunction.com. We will verify your request (email confirmation and, where necessary, additional information). You may use an authorized agent; we may require proof of authorization.
Opt-Out of Sale/Sharing
Visit /about/do-not-sell/ to set your preference. If you are under 16, we do not sell/share your data and require opt-in for any future such practices.
Shine the Light (CA Civ. Code §1798.83)
You may request information regarding our disclosure of personal information to third parties for their direct marketing. We do not share for such marketing, but you may email privacy@methodicalfunction.com.
8) Data Retention
We retain information only as long as reasonably necessary for the purposes described (typically up to 24 months for analytics in aggregated form) unless a longer period is required by law.
9) Security
We use reasonable technical and organizational measures (HTTPS, access controls, least-privilege, continuous deployment checks). No system is perfectly secure.
10) International Users
The Site is operated in the United States. By using the Site, you consent to processing in the U.S.
11) Changes to this Policy
We may update this Policy; the "Effective" date will change. Material changes will be highlighted within the Site.
