Joshua is a software engineer focused on building practical systems and explaining complex ideas clearly.

About the author

Before anything else, Joshua Morris is a father of three — a role that informs and inspires everything he does. By trade, he’s a software engineer working across both front-end and back-end systems, a creative technologist, and an independent builder with a lifelong passion for tinkering.

His fascination with computers began early. As a kid, he wrote his own programming guide on BASIC for his classmates in gradeschool and later worked for his father writing applications in DOS and building personal computers from spare parts. That hands-on upbringing sparked a deep curiosity about how systems worked. It wasn’t long before Joshua developed an early interest in computer programming, computer security, telecom networks, and later, custom hardware design — passions that continue to influence his projects today.

Over the years, Joshua has worked for startups, large enterprises, game studios, and educational institutions, always driven by a love of solving real problems through thoughtful design and clean engineering. He takes pride in creating systems and experiences that make technology not just functional, but enjoyable.

As the creator of MethodicalFunction.com, he writes thoughtfully structured, deeply researched articles exploring modern development — from JavaScript quirks and Golang workflows to building fast, accessible web experiences. His writing often nods to obscure tech history, 80s sci-fi, and delightfully clever code golf challenges.

Outside of tech, Joshua is a proud Special Olympics volunteer and a relentless experimenter. His hobbies include 3D printing, electronics projects with Arduino and Raspberry Pi, and amateur radio. At home, he shares life with his three kids, two cleverly named dogs — Sir Isaac Newton and Mrs. Grace Hopper — and a pair of backyard chickens. He embraces everything nerdy, nostalgic, and delightfully twisted.

He also runs esplorn.com, where he documents Toyota 4Runner mods, gear reviews, and his love for the great outdoors.

You can find Joshua on GitHub, X, and LinkedIn, where he’s always learning, sharing, and building.

His mission? To methodically function through modern software — one carefully crafted line of code at a time.

We are energy... experiencing frequency... projected into form.
