Review

I still keep a LaMetric TIME parked above my monitor because the pixel ticker is endlessly useful. Over the last year LaMetric updated the app with Shortcuts and IFTTT triggers, so I now flip between time, weather, GitHub stars, queue depth from my Grafana instance, and Pomodoro timers without touching the phone. The 37x8 display is plenty bright; I run it at 30% indoors and schedule night mode to dim automatically. Wi-Fi reconnects instantly after power outages, and the device supports both webhooks and MQTT relays, which is perfect for home-lab automations. Audio quality on the 3W speaker is still just notification-grade—fine for chimes, not music. My only gripes are that creating truly custom icons still requires the web editor and the price remains premium. If you’re a metrics nerd who wants glanceable dashboards in hardware, it’s still the most polished option I’ve found.

✓ Pros

  • Bright 37x8 RGB matrix is readable across the room
  • IFTTT, Shortcuts, and webhooks tie notifications into any workflow
  • Scheduling and dimming modes keep it unobtrusive at night
  • Built-in counters and dashboards replace browser tabs
  • Solid Wi-Fi and Bluetooth reconnect after outages without manual pairing

✗ Cons

  • Pricey compared with simpler smart clocks
  • Designing custom animations still requires the web editor
