Review

The Mac mini is my favorite small form-factor machine for a home lab because it is quiet, power-efficient, and easy to tuck onto a shelf. The M4 model with 16GB of unified memory is a strong baseline for local services, build jobs, and always-on utilities. It is the kind of computer you can leave running without thinking about heat or noise. If you want a reliable little box for experiments, test environments, or a tidy desktop setup, this is a great fit.

✓ Pros

  • Small footprint and quiet operation
  • Strong baseline performance for local services
  • Easy to leave running in a home lab

✗ Cons

  • Storage is modest at 256GB
  • Requires external peripherals
