Review

Another year in and the TS4 is still the anchor of my desk setup. A single Thunderbolt 4 cable from my main laptop continues to drive dual 4K60 displays, dual 10Gb/s NVMe enclosures, 2.5GbE backhaul, and balanced audio gear without flinching, and the 98W host charging keeps pace during long compile or render sessions. I swapped in a USB4 workstation and a compact Linux mini PC this summer; both negotiated full bandwidth, hot-swapped cleanly, and exposed every downstream port with zero driver drama. The front USB-C and USB-A 10Gb/s ports remain my go-to for camera card dumps, and the UHS-II SD/microSD slots are still among the fastest built into any dock I’ve tried. It does run warm—surface temps hover in the mid 40s °C under load—but the aluminum chassis sheds heat silently and the link has yet to drop. The sticker price is still steep, yet consolidating 18 ports, power delivery, and network I/O into one brick has eliminated an entire hub stack on my desk, which keeps it firmly in my must-have kit for 2025.

✓ Pros

  • Sustains dual 4K60 displays, high-speed storage, and 2.5GbE over one cable
  • 98W Thunderbolt 4 host charging keeps power-hungry laptops topped off
  • Six 10Gb/s USB-C/USB-A ports plus UHS-II SD and microSD readers cover legacy and modern gear
  • Solid aluminum chassis stays stable on the desk and quietly sheds heat
  • Works seamlessly with macOS, Windows, and USB4 hosts

✗ Cons

  • Premium price compared to simpler docks
  • Runs warm and needs open airflow
  • Requires a Thunderbolt 4/USB4 host to unlock full bandwidth
