Review

I’ve cycled half a dozen NVMe drives through ORICO’s USB 3.2 Gen 2 enclosure this year and it continues to punch above its price. The transparent shell pops open without tools, the spring clamp holds 2230/2242/2260/2280 sticks snugly, and the RTL9210B controller negotiates full 10 Gb/s speeds—my SN570 tops out around 1,020 MB/s reads and 960 MB/s writes in CrystalDiskMark. The aluminum heat spreader plate and thermal pad keep temps in the mid-40s during large transfers, and the enclosure resumes instantly after sleep on macOS, Windows, and Linux. It ships with both USB-C to C and C to A cables now, so I can plug straight into my Mac or a dev board without adapters. It will get warm on extended writes and obviously can’t match Thunderbolt enclosures, but for quick clones, Steam libraries, or scratch disk duty, it’s been rock solid.

✓ Pros

  • Tool-free design supports 30-80 mm NVMe sticks
  • USB 3.2 Gen 2 controller hits ~1 GB/s on fast drives
  • Thermal pad and aluminum plate keep temps in check
  • Includes USB-C to C and USB-C to A cables
  • Plug-and-play across Windows, macOS, Linux

✗ Cons

  • Warms up during multi-hundred GB writes
  • Limited to PCIe 3.0 speeds—Thunderbolt is faster if you need more
